Sustainable Forestry in the Tropics: Unlocking the Bioeconomic Potential of Thailand’s Teak Plantations
September 29 – October 10, 2024 in Chiang Mai, Thailand

Unlock the secrets of Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) with the International Forestry Field School in Thailand. We provide you an enriching experience combining SFM theory and practice in the tropical context of teak (Tectona grandis), an endemic species in Southeast Asia and one of the worldwide finest tropical timbers.
Led by scholars from TUD and Kasetsart University, the Teak Field School promotes integrative and problem-oriented learning about the silvicultural, economic, social dimensions of teak production and use in the context of a bioeconomy. From stand assessments to stakeholder engagements with forest authorities, plantation owners and sawmills our holistic approach ensures a comprehensive understanding of teak management.

Join us for a unique experience where learning goes beyond the confines of the conventional classroom. Delve into the realm of tropical forestry amidst the enchanting landscapes and diverse culture of Northern Thailand’s mountains.
The field school will include preparatory activities (online and physically in Tharandt/Bangkok).

TUD students can combine the Teak Field School with their individual study Programme, as compulsory elective module (e.g. World Forestry) to earn up to 5 credits.
